Into the Mist

The game

Down through the Mist

Every run is a descent. You pick a road, fight what lives on it, and take what it leaves behind.

The Warden walks a ruined bridge under a black sun.
I

Walk the road

Choose your path down through a painted world. Fights, merchants, strangers and strange rooms wait along the way.

A card fight: the Warden lands a heavy blow on a monster.
II

Fight with cards

Each turn you draw a hand. Play cards to strike, guard and break your enemies, then watch for what they do next.

The spoils screen: choose one of three cards.
III

Take what they leave

Win cards, relics and gear. Every run builds a different deck, and every deck finds a different way down.

Five heroes

Five were sent down

Each hero has their own cards and their own ways to build a deck.

The Warden of the Passage in dark plate with a red scarf and a greatsword.

The Warden of the Passage

Half her block carries into the next turn. Builds around shields, thorns and a greatsword.

The Fallen Messenger, a figure made of torn letters and red wax seals.

The Fallen Messenger

A letter is always on its way. Builds around delayed blows, paper cuts and bleeding.

The Mirror Knight in black and silver mirrored plate.

The Mirror Knight

Sends blocked damage back. Builds around reflection, copies and shattering.

Ilva in a lace gown holding a warm coal, a black feathered thing behind her.

Ilva and the Unbeheld

The thing behind her strikes at the end of every turn. Feed it, mark the prey, pay in blood.

Aletheia and Apate, twin sisters grown together like a tree.

Aletheia and Apate

One tells the truth, one lies. Their cards grow stronger when both sisters play.

Bosses

Bosses that break the rules

Every boss changes how the fight works. Learn the rule, or lose to it.

The Bride of the Spire, with a candle burning beside her.

The Bride of the Spire

A candle burns down for every energy you spend. When it goes out, she strikes.

The Clockmaker holds the heroes like a watch he is repairing.

The Clockmaker

Three real minutes for the whole fight. Kill him before the hand comes round.

The Doubter lifts the heroes towards a great painted eye.

The Doubter

The number on its blow may be a lie. Only a Doubt shows you what is real.

The Butterfly Who Dreams cradles the sleeping heroes.

The Butterfly

Every second turn is a dream: your cards are free, but most of what you did is gone when you wake.

The colossi stand along the horizon: a horned goat, a kneeling king, a burnt clock, a judge with a bell-tower gavel and a mountain that is a mouth. A lone hero faces them under a black sun.

Colossi

A giant at the end of every act

Colossus fights are bigger than the rest: a moving arena, waves of enemies, and a choice to make when it falls.

The Scapegoat, a goat the size of a mountain with a burning town between its horns.

The Scapegoat

A goat the size of a mountain, carrying every town's guilt. It has never stopped walking.

The Mouth That Waits, a mountain that is one open mouth with a road for a tongue.

The Mouth That Waits

Pilgrims walk into it all fight. Save them, or let it feed.

The Hollow King, armour the size of a mountain, kneeling, with a stair up to its visor.

The Hollow King

Armour the size of a mountain, kneeling. There is a stair up to the visor, and nobody inside.

The Burnt Clock, a great town clock with an eye behind the glass.

The Burnt Clock

A town clock that was burned to stop the day. The fire only stopped it being right.

The final bosses gather around a black sun, the five heroes small at their feet.

At the bottom

Twenty-three final bosses

Whoever waits at the bottom has a rule of their own, and a second form when they fall to half health.

Solenne descends in profile against the black sun.

Solenne's favour

The sun is watching

Solenne, the dying sun, gathers the sparks set free when monsters die. Fight well and she comes down to offer you a relic. The better you play, the rarer the gift.

Solenne offers three relics in lanterns.
A merchant's coat lined with cards and trinkets for sale.

Merchants

They remember you. Some will buy pieces of you: your blood, your sleep, your name.

An Ancient, the Clockmaker before, offers three choices.

Mystery rooms and the Ancients

Rooms off the road, and old powers who offer a bargain that shapes the rest of your run.

A great shadow crosses a bone cathedral above the road.

Things on the road

Every area has its own sights and dangers. Some of them are watching you go by.

Between runs

  • Free the other heroes.
  • Relight the sun.
  • Give the monsters their names back.
